Rap Duo Keeps its Promise to Stand Against the FBI for the Rights of Juggalos

Detroit, MI (September 25, 2012) – It was just over a month ago, at the 13^th Annual Gathering of the Juggalos, that Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope of Insane Clown Posse (ICP) announced that they would be taking legal action against the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), due to its National Gang Intelligence Center (NGIC) labeling ICP’s fan base, the Juggalos, a criminal “gang” in its 2011 National Gang Threat Assessment. It was at ICP’s scheduled Gathering seminar that the face painted rappers publically promised the Juggalos that they would fight for their fans’ rights, regardless of any financial obstacles. On this day, September 25, 2012, ICP and Psychopathic Records came through for their fans, and filed a lawsuit against the FBI.

Insane Clown Posse and Psychopathic Records’ legal counsel, Hertz Schram PC, has released the following statement:
“Hertz Schram PC, by Howard Hertz and Elizabeth Thomson, on behalf of Insane Clown Posse and Psychopathic Records, has filed suit against the FBI in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, alleging the FBI’s violation of the Freedom of Information Act (“FOIA”) for its failure to produce any documentary evidence in support of the FBI’s classification of the groups’ fan base, the Juggalos, as a gang in the 2011 National Gang Threat Assessment: Emerging Trends.”

The Juggalos were listed as a “gang” in the 2011 National Gang Threat Assessment under “non-traditional gangs.” The FBI’s labeling of American Juggalos as a “gang” is extremely absurd as the Juggalos have come together as a dedicated fan base due to a deep appreciation of the music of ICP, Psychopathic Records, and in recent times, other similar record labels and musical artists. There are numerous known fanatical, music fan bases, some examples being Parrot Heads (Jimmy Buffet fans), Little Monsters (Lady Gaga fans), Beliebers (Justin Bieber fans), Dead Heads (Grateful Dead fans), and many more. However, none of these fan bases have ever been singled out by the FBI. In fact, the FBI’s unwarranted labeling of the Juggalos as a “gang” is the first time in rock-n-roll history that any known music fan base has been officially labeled a “gang”, which may cause, and already has caused, significant, legal ramifications for Juggalo citizens of the United States of America. To compare the Juggalos to such notorious and long established criminal gangs such as the Aryan Brotherhood, Bloods, Crips, and the Latin Kings is beyond any available legal rationale, as Juggalos are fans of music – not hardened, organized gang members! 

Self-proclaimed Juggalo Lawyer, Farris F. Haddad, who is also a legal advisor in this matter, states that:
“The FBI either does not have much information backing up their labeling of Juggalos as a national street gang, or if they do, it is so flimsy they are certainly hesitant to share it — Because music fans are, simply, not the same thing as a gang.”

Insane Clown Posse have just launched an online Scavenger Hunt for The Mighty Death Pop! clowns scattered throughout the Internet. Starting today, Wednesday August 29th, fans of ICP (also known as Juggalos) can hunt for hidden clowns on participating websites, including Billboard, Loudwire, Revolver, Artist Direct, The Gauntlet, Crave, Noisecreep, and ICP Fansite, Faygoluvers to enter for a chance to win a skinned MDP! XBOX 360 and a signed Box Set. The grand prize winner will be announced on September 30th.

The Scavenger Hunt image that will be hidden on each of the participating sites will link up with fans' Facebook accounts through the hunt's official tab. Clicking on hidden clowns (which will be added to the sites one at a time over the next 8 days), will take fans to the page where their progress in the contest is stored. Once all 8 clowns have been found, the app will then prompt you to enter for the grand prize

Cave-In-Rock, IL and Los Angeles, CA (August 10, 2012) – Speaking to their fans and media on the site of their 13th annual “Gathering of the Juggalos” music festival, the Insane Clown Posse expressed concern for the well-being of their fan base, which was labeled a “gang” by The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Gang Intelligence Center’s 2011 National Gang Threat Assessment. To that end, the duo of Violent J (Joseph Bruce) and Shaggy 2 Dope (Joseph Utsler) announced that they, along with Psychopathic Records, have retained legal counsel to investigate and pursue legal action including monetary compensation and/or other injunctive relief on behalf of their fan base, the Juggalos.
The 2011 National Gang Threat Assessment lists Insane Clown Posse’s fans, known as Juggalos, under "non-traditional gangs." The report places Juggalos among such notorious entities as the Aryan Brotherhood, Bloods, Crips and the Latin Kings and states, “…many Juggalos subsets exhibit gang-like behavior and engage in criminal activity and violence. Law enforcement officials in at least 21 states have identified criminal Juggalo sub-sets….”
Shaggy 2 Dope stated, “It’s been almost a year since Juggalos were put on the National Gang Threat Assessment and we are hearing too many stories from our fans about the trouble it’s causing them. Just because you like a music group, doesn’t make you a criminal.”
Violent J said, “We’re not attacking the FBI, but they got this wrong. The Juggalos are not a gang, and that needs to be fixed.”

“We are seeking individual Juggalos whose rights have been violated as a result of the mistaken belief that they are a ‘gang member.’ If you or someone you know has suffered any negative consequence with an employer, governmental representative, including law enforcement, border patrol, airline security, or other local, state or federal governmental agency or employee as a result of your status as a Juggalo, we want to know about it.
We are seeking individuals who have experienced any of the following based on a government employee or other’s knowledge of the Juggalo ‘gang’ status as stated in the 2011 National Gang Assessment:
1. Stopped by Border Patrol (U.S., Canadian or otherwise)
2. Stopped or denied ability to fly on an airline
3. Increased criminal sentencing or denial of parole
4. Transfer of a juvenile criminal offender from juvenile court to circuit (“adult”) court
5. Denial of job opportunity, loss of employment
6. Denial of permit to march, boycott, assemble
7. Denial of a vendor to sell Juggalo merchandise
8. An injunction preventing the Juggalos from congregating in any area, wearing Juggalo clothing, displaying tattoos
9. Pulled over or detained by law enforcement
10. Any other denial of a right, liberty, property”
The law firm of Hertz Schram urges Juggalos who meet the above criteria to share their experiences with their legal team at no charge. Juggalos are asked to fill out a short questionnaire that may be completed online at www.juggalosfightback.com.

Bringing five days and nights of music and pandemonium to Cave-In-Rock, IL, the 13th Annual Gathering of the Juggalos is getting ready to touch down on August 8th – 12th. 2012 marks the fifth year that the fields and forests of the Hog Rock campgrounds, better known as “Hatchet Landings,” transform into ground zero for the Juggalo nation. But don’t expect all attendees to be in hatchetman gear and face-paint, as in the past couple years there has been an influx of curious, summer festival goers who seem to have added the Gathering to their YOLO lists. Year after year, the surrounding, small town community embraces the Gathering and all of its outrageousness. Where else will you find that make shift Faygo stands have replaced lemonade stands, face-paint is stocked up at the general store, and hatchmen are littered throughout a city where Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope aren’t the mayors? This year’s line-up boasts talented musicians, familiar hosts, comedians, wrestlers, and a number of outrageous events and activities planned throughout the one and only summer festival that runs 24 hours a day.
